Wind, sound rules
and fire season
The National Weather Service says the Boulder area is especially prone to strong chinook winds, with gusts of 60 to near 100 mph near the foothills. Summer brings thunderstorms. For a terrace, lawn or canyon site, we weight stands and agree on an indoor backup with the venue.
Boulder limits amplified sound near homes. In residential districts it may not carry 200 feet past the property line by day, or 100 feet after 11 p.m. We aim speakers at guests, not neighbors. In dry spells, county fire restrictions can ban fireworks, so we check the rules first.

Yes. We play events from Pearl Street and the CU campus out to Longmont, Lafayette and Louisville, and up Boulder Canyon to Nederland and Lyons. We plan each one well ahead, so timing and load-in are set with your venue early. You see the full quote before you book. The crew sets up early, before guests come in.
Will Boulder's noise rules cut our party short?
Not if we plan for them. In residential districts, the city bars amplified sound that carries 200 feet past the property line from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and 100 feet from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. The daytime rule does not apply in commercial areas. Hotels and halls often set their own end times too. We ask your venue about both and aim the speakers at the dance floor.
Can we use cold sparks at a Boulder County event?
Sometimes. Boulder County puts fire restrictions in place during dry spells. A Stage 1 order in March 2026 banned fireworks across unincorporated parts of the county. Your venue and local fire officials decide which effects are allowed. We check the current rules and the venue policy before we bring cold sparks. If sparks are off the table, lighting can still mark the big moment.
What if chinook winds hit on the day of an outdoor event?
We plan for that. The National Weather Service says the Boulder area is especially prone to strong downslope winds, and summer brings thunderstorms. For a terrace, lawn or tent, we weight every stand, cover the gear and agree on an indoor backup with your venue before the day. If gusts pick up, we move the sound inside rather than risk a speaker tipping over.
Do you do CU Boulder and company events, or just parties?
All of them. We MC awards nights, play galas and fundraisers, run sound for talks and panels, and DJ birthdays, weddings and cultural celebrations. Campus rooms have their own booking rules. CU Boulder says groups booking academic space must be non-profit, educational or leadership oriented, so check with its event planning office first. Then send us the date and the room.
How early should we book a DJ for Boulder?
As early as you can. Early booking gives us time to build the run of show, confirm load-in with your venue and send our insurance certificate. Send your date as soon as you have a venue. You will hear back about availability, with a straightforward quote, within 24 hours.
