Heat, sound rules
and burn bans
Austin summers run hot. The average August high at Camp Mabry is about 98°F, so outdoor gear needs shade and guests need a way inside. City code caps permitted outdoor music at 85 dBA, and a venue's permit can set lower limits or earlier hours. We set the volume to your venue's permit.
Travis County can call a burn ban in dry spells, which limits open flame outdoors. Austin Fire asks for flame and pyro effect permits at least 14 days out, so cold sparks and haze get cleared with your venue early. Dark Sky towns out west also call for low, aimed lighting.

Why hire a DJ in Austin when live bands are everywhere?
Many hosts book both. A band sounds great, but it takes breaks and plays its own set list. A DJ fills those breaks, plays the songs your guests ask for, and keeps the floor going after the band packs up. The DJ also works as your MC for toasts, awards and announcements, so the night runs to time.
Will Austin's sound rules cut our party short?
They can shape it. City code caps permitted outdoor music at 85 dBA, and a venue's permit can set lower limits or earlier hours. At homes, amplified sound is limited to 75 decibels and must not carry past the property line from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. Ask your venue for its sound terms. We fit the volume and timeline to them.
Can we have cold sparks at an Austin or Hill Country venue?
It depends on your venue and the fire rules. Austin Fire reviews pyro and flame effects and asks for permits at least 14 days ahead. Travis County can also call burn bans in dry spells. We confirm what your venue allows before effects go in your quote. If sparks are off the table, lighting can still mark the big moments.
How early should we book near SXSW or ACL Fest?
As early as you can. SXSW 2027 runs March 15 to 21, and ACL Fest fills Zilker Park for two weekends each October. ACL drew 450,000 people over six days in 2025. Booking early locks in your date and gives us time to plan with your venue. For other dates, a few months ahead is a good start.
Can you play company parties and UT Austin events?
Yes. We book corporate parties, conferences, awards nights, galas and campus events, along with weddings, quinceañeras and birthdays. Apple, Dell, Samsung and Tesla all have big operations in the Austin area, and those nights often need speeches, videos and screens as well as a dance floor. On campus, we follow the venue's own event rules.
